Aweber Now Allows Unconfirmed Imports. Best Way To Do It.
Aweber is now allowing unconfirmed imports. Probably a good idea to import ASAP before they change their mind.
Here is the strategy I use.
If you already have an Aweber account with a list greater than 2K in a single list, then choose your biggest list as long as it is over 2K and import clickers to it.
Do not import clickers to a new list. The spam complaint ratio could be too high.
I would not import more than 10% of your list size of clickers. So for 2K list don’t import more than 200 clickers.
This reduces the spam complaint ratio because Aweber counts spam complaints per list per day.
If you do not already have an Aweber account Click Here to get one.
Or if you don’t have a single list over 2K you should import a full clean list not just clickers or openers.
I use ListwiseHQ for list cleaning.
I load the list into excel and delete all the columns except email.
I delete the top row if it has titles.
I then filter for aol.com and remove all AOL email address because they are the highest spam complainers.
I dated a woman who used the AOL spam box to store messages because it was so easy to move them there. LOL.
To import the list in Aweber, click Subscribers, Import History, Click Here to Import.
If you are already logged into Aweber you can just click here.
Choose a list and click next.
Click Browse to choose the csv file to import and click next.
Choose they signed up on my website and give them a valid website URL.
Choose you are bringing over your list from another email provider and choose the provider.
Decide if you want to send them any of the current lists followup messages.
I chose “No, do not send my first follow up message once the import is approved”
Then select “No, do not ask my subscribers to opt-in to my list again.” and click Finish Import.
Then you just wait for them to approve the import. It tkes up to a day.
Since GetResponse is being blocked by all Microsoft properties (hotmail. msn, live, outlook), I would also search for all subscribers with those domains and import them also.
This is the strategy I use and make no guarantee that it will work for you or that your Aweber account does not get shut down because of importing subscribers.
Make sure to make a backup copy first and make sure your list has enough room for the imported subscribers or you will be charged for the higher list cost.
Here is an example of my import of 1995 subscribers. 686 did not get imported because they were already in the list I imported to.

Hi Ed, great post, very detailed.
Not sure how long it will be before AWeber reserve decision, only time will tell :).
Mike
I saw this the other today too. Great recommendations here in order to conquer spam complaint ratio. Thanks!
How do you only filter clickers subcriber in aweber?
I was referring to moving clickers from another AR into Aweber.
However if you want to get clickers in Aweber you can do that by individual broadcast or use the api to get them all.
AW Pro Tools can help with that if you don’t know programming.
Hi Ed,
Thanks for the info, I will give it a try. I also like your info on how to reduce the spam complaints. If you have any other recommendations on how to lower spam complaints it would be appreciated.
